“Bit By The Fang is the first solo album from singer/songwriter John Andrews and his imaginary back up band “The Yawns.” John began recording the album in 2013 while working at a Salvation Army in the Amish country of Lancaster, PA, his home at the time. As the new year rolled around, he followed a demanding schedule of writing, recording and touring with both Quilt (drums) and Woods (keys). It wasn’t until a well-earned break that he would find the time and energy to complete the solo record he started months before. He recounts the difficulties involved. “Traveling so much caused my whole living scenario in PA to kind of fall apart,” he tells us, lamenting over the comfort only home can provide. As he moved back to his hometown of Yardville, NJ, he set up camp in his grandparent’s empty living room to record & perform everything entirely by himself once again. Warm acoustic guitars, honky tonk piano, lap steel, singing saw and fluttering violins all sing together and create this well crafted, yet comfortingly sloppy, psych-country/R&B record. A self-taught piano player, you’ll hear him maneuver around the keys with the precision of players well beyond his years. Lyrically and stylistically John is capable of tackling even the subject of death with the lightheartedness of a Saturday morning cartoon in “I’ll Go To Your Funeral, If You Go To Mine”. It’s hard not to conjure comparisons to Michael Hurley, Daniel Johnston or Kevin Ayers. This album is a great introduction to the grandiose fables of characters at the mercy of Andrews‘ oddball mind.” -Jeffrey Silverstein

Elison Jackson is a garage–folk/ psychedelic rock band from Philadelphia, PA & New Haven, CT. The band has put out three records and several bedroom-demo mix-tapes since 2011. Their third LP, “Do Not Fear To Kill A Dead Man”, was released in the fall of 2013 to critical acclaim. Featuring basement organs, haunted lyrics and Neil Young-esque guitar jams, their sound has expanded significantly from its folk roots, moving forward with a strong foundation into blues, 80’s analog synth, and prog-rock. Their newest record, a 5-song collection titled “Silver Sounds: Hallucinations”, takes a step further in the band’s sonic progression. Heavier drums, driving synth, and atmospheric bowed upright bass fill out the songs in a way the band has never achieved before.
Staying busy since their beginnings in 2010, Elison Jackson has emerged as one of the most consistent and unique bands in CT. Sharing the stage with Elvis Perkins, Akron/Family, Mystic Braves, Simone Felice and other like-minded contemporaries, the band has built a loyal following in CT and beyond. Primary songwriter and singer Sam Perduta currently resides in Philadelphia, PA, after living and basing the band out of New Haven from 2012-2015.They are currently in the studio recording a follow up at the infamous “Blazone” in New Haven, CT.
Mountain Movers (Safety Meeting Records):
Although five years have passed since Apple Mountain, the Mountain Movers’ last full length album, the band has been working steadily, releasing a half dozen 7” EP’s and cassettes. Over the last couple years their line-up has stabilized, one of incredible chemistry, and with every live performance the band’s interpretations of Dan Greene’s song writing have become increasingly direct, focused, and tonally powerful. The result is the highly anticipated new full-length album, Death Magic.
Many bands described as “low-fi” only begin that way, and as the artist improves, so does the level of fidelity. But the Mountain Movers have upended the usual trajectory. After their ambitious and incredibly realized album Let’s Open Up The Chest (2008), a hi-fidelity studio production, subsequent releases were grounds for experimentation and home recording, resulting in a sound that some might call low-fi. For the Mountain Movers, this experimentation was a quest for an elusive tone, a far-off texture, and anyone who has seen their live shows over the last few years has witnessed the Mountain Movers distill their formula into something organic, pure, and unmasked. To make this album, the band set up in the modest basement studio of former member John Miller, whose production is live, transparent, and captures the feeling of what may be Greene’s best song writing to date. Death Magic is not another over-produced, ultra-digital pile of overdubs and effects. Rather, these ten tracks document an inspired, unified performance—fuzzed out, pounding, and hypnotic.
